HATHA YOGA The word Hatha is a compound of the words Ha and Tha meaning sun and moon. In the ancient yogic tradition, the sun is the soul and the moon is the consciousness. B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the world’s masters of Yoga, describes the purpose of Hatha Yoga as “cleansing the consciousness to admit the soul.” Hatha Yoga incorporates meditation, stretching, strengthening, standing and seated postures, balancing and flows. The classes will integrate asanas into a flowing, meditative and calm practice. Students will learn to use gentle movement to welcome soft openings and mind-body awareness through breath and meditation. Perfect for both beginners and more experienced practitioners wishing to deepen their practice. INSTRUCTOR BIO Debby Sereda, CYT YogaMaya Debby Sereda has been practicing yoga for over 10 years. She studied Iyengar Yoga with the Yoga College of Canada where she attained her certification as a yoga instructor. Her teaching incorporates the Iyengar principals into a Hatha flow practise. Debby has been teaching yoga to students from the ages of 3 to 80 and is a compassionate and giving instructor. “It is up to me as an instructor to not only teach the asanas (postures) but to open my students up to all aspects of yoga. It is my challenge to teach them patience, kindness, respect and creativity through the practice of yoga. It is my reward to have my students experience not only the physical benefits of the practise but the philosophical and emotional benefits as well.”
