Playground Fundraiser a HUGE Success!

Over 200 children and families came out to enjoy a fun, lively and interactive concert with children’s entertainer “Peter Puffin’s Whale Tales” on Sunday, February 7th in support of the new playground being planned for the West Hillhurst Community Centre.

Several versions of Peter’s most recent CD title song “Proud Like a Mountain” were sung and danced to, and children donned fantastic wildlife costumes to share in the fun. A new verse, written by Peter Lenton (aka Peter “Puffin”), encouraged children to have fun and make friends at their new playground, something that is sure to happen once the structure is built in September.  Peter stated that he was very honoured to be involved with such a great community-building project that will bring families and friends together.

The West Hillhurst Playground Society hosted the event that included a bake sale, silent auction and home-based vendor sales, in addition to the family-oriented concert.  Society Chair Jo Larson was thrilled to see such a great turnout for the event. “We are very pleased with the event’s success, both in the amount of funds raised and the number of families and friends who came out to enjoy a great afternoon in support of our project”.  Over $5000 was raised and will go directly to the playground. In addition, many donations were collected.

The playground design was displayed at the event, with very positive comments by the families in attendance. The construction date is set for September 16-18th , and many people signed up to help with this volunteer effort at the fundraiser.

The Playground Committee would like to thank everyone who attended and donated their time and resources to the fundraiser. A special mention goes to Keith Ermter of New Hope Church for donating his immense technical expertise to ensure that the concert sounded and looked so great.

Peter Puffin will continue his generous donation of $5 from every CD sold to the playground project for the next few months. CDs are available by contacting Jo Larson at jgccm@mac.com or by calling 403-681-2181.

Donations are still needed and those over $25 will receive at tax receipt. Cheques can be made payable to the “Parks Foundation Calgary” with “West Hillhurst Playground” in the memo.
