It’s Playtime at the NEW WHCA Playground!!
After 15 months of hard work and fantastic support from the community and local businesses, the NEW playground at West Hillhurst Community Centre is buzzing with activity. Kids of all ages have been enjoying the new space for a few weeks now, and it’s been a great place to play, meet old friends and make new ones!
The playground features two age-appropriate climbing areas, a rotating net structure, a rocking dinosaur and a double swing set. With rock walls, a volcano climber, telescopes, a music station and more, the playground is sure to thrill budding rock stars, paleontologists, pirates and dragon-slayers alike.
Parents and kids can enjoy a quick rest at the benches and tables around the play area, and a covered structure adjacent to the playground will be added next spring, with fundraising ongoing.
The Playground Committee has so many people to thank! We are so grateful to everyone who donated generously to our project at various levels – thank you. Financial and in-kind support was also received from the Alberta Lottery Fund, the City of Calgary Parks Department, Parks Foundation Calgary, Park n’ Play Design, City Core Developments, PCL Construction and The Calgary Foundation.
A very special thank you to all of the volunteers who came out in the sun and snow to help put this playground together – we could not have done it without all of you!
Watch for upcoming announcements about the WHCA Playground Grand Opening Celebration, being planned for the Spring — you won’t want to miss it! Thanks again to everyone who helped create a great playground for a great community.
