As the departure date for St. Albert approaches we have just a few House Keeping details to take care of: 

For all the parents taking the bus up with the skaters or staying in either a parent room, family room or in a skaters room as a chaperon you are responsible for your personal / family expenses for the trip.  This payment is due by:  Saturday March 8th, 2008.  Please make cheques payable to the West Hillhurst Synchronized Skating and give them to your respective Team Managers.

        Mystic Ice please give the money to Rosemary Noda

Dear Parents and Skaters:

            As the 2007 – 2008 Skating Season draws to a close and we start preparation for our annual ice show it is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the successes of the season and make plans for the next year.  Some of you might know that this was suppose to be my last season at West Hillhurst but as we all know all plans are subject to change.  It gives me a great deal of pleasure to announce that the West Hillhurst Community has asked be to be the Director of Skating and I have accepted this position effective immediately.  In short, what this means is that I am staying at West Hillhurst.

            As Skating Director I will assume control of all aspects of the West Hillhurst Skating Program and work with the head coach Christa Hadikin to build a Recreational Skating Program that offers diversity and quality in a format that encourages learning and fun making it like non other in the City of Calgary.  I will act as a liaison between Christa and the Community and take care of the Organization, Communication and all of the behind the scene aspects of the West Hillhurst Skating Program leaving Christa free to focus on providing the skaters with the quality instruction that they deserve.  The West Hillhurst Community, Christa and myself are all excited about this new direction that the community has taken and are already talking and making plans for the 2008 – 2009 skating season.

            Next season I will continue to help coach the synchronized skating teams and the Pre – Can-Skate Class and be on hand to help Christa when she needs me.  I will be available to help supervise and aid the skaters with their practice the difference is that with the exception of the synchro I will help without my skates on.  I will be available to answer and field questions and concerns about the program becoming the “Go To” girl.  My talk about retirement was never about any loss of love for coaching or my involvement with the West Hillhurst Program.  It was strictly my 52 year old knees that after 4 ½ hours of coaching on a Saturday felt like 92 year old knees.  The opportunity to be the Director of Skating for the West Hillhurst Community will allow me to be on the ice less but still involved in a program that I have nurtured for over 33 years.

            Christa and I feel that this decision is a very positive step in creating a truly unique skating program keeping West Hillhurst in the forefront and the leaders in Recreational Skating Programming.  Christa and myself hope that we will have everyone’s support on this new and exciting adventure that we are about to embark.
