PRIZE FOR THE TOP SELLER
STREAM OF DREAMS
SATURDAY JUNE 2ND
If you could have your kids learn about where our water goes when it goes down the drain, what affects it has on the environment, and have an art class teaching how to paint beautiful fish, then have their fish put up on the chain link fence along 6th Avenue, where they can see them every day as they pass by and know that they helped to beautify the WHCA as well as start early in their education about responsible water use, would you want to sign them up? We are looking for kids, siblings and their parents to sign up and spend some time at the WHCA. You will get 45 minutes of education about storm drains, run off water sheds and responsible water use. Then 45 minutes of art instruction painting various size fish to be put on the fence outside the Community center. Why fish you ask? Because everything that goes down our drains goes into our streams and affects the fish and their habitat!
We thought it would be a great idea for parent volunteers for the Garden build to bring the kids and let them have fun, learn, then come out and help with the garden build if they wish. We need a minimum 250-400 fish painted to make the fence look great. Fish will vary in size and and cost will be appr. $5.00 pr large fish (wooden) or $5.00 for two small fish, then various sizes in between. Why not give the kids some ownership in their community? If we can create enough interest, some of the proceeds will be donated back for the garden build. Please come join us, sign up with Rose at rbalez@gmail.com
RECYCLE
Part of our fund-raising for the gardens will be recycling. The WHCA Green Committee is setting up an account at the Vecova (formerly VRRI) located 3304 33rd st. NW. (Near the University). Phone number is (403) 289-5651. No waiting in a line. Drop your drinking recyclable off at the cash window. Receive a receipt and a description of the drop off. There will be a copy of the receipt in their books and one for WHCA. If you can’t get to Vecova to drop off, we will have a box set up outside the arena for the months of March -May. The box will be decorated by children in the community titled Green Committee Garden Build.
