Description
This course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of chess, such as the rules, notation, and basic strategy while cultivating a love for the game. We will start from the basics, and the class will be able to play and learn from their games as well. By the end we will put everything together for one mock tournament where students can employ what they have learned.
Instructed through the Calgary Chess Club, their mission is to bring together chess players in Calgary and surrounding areas who would like to share their hobby and interest in chess with each other.
Chess is a great way for youth to connect with their peers especially when English might be their second language. If you are a newcomer to Canada this might be a great way to meet new friends.
About the instructor: Meet Adam. I have been playing chess seriously for three years now. I have a passion for teaching and working with kids. I am 17 years old, and I am graduating highschool in May. I will be going to Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary in September and I am apprenticing on the Calgary Chess Club board of directors. I participate regularly in chess tournaments, and have a deep passion for the game. I hope to instill the value and fun of the game of chess in the younger generations, much as it was once instilled in me.
