Send Us Your Village Beer Receipts!

Neighbour Day is all about gathering, and Village Brewery was built with the purpose of gathering people around community. To support this, they are working with the Federation of Calgary Communities to offer rebates to  community associations for all Village beer purchases made by Calgarians throughout the month of June, as part of Neighbour Day celebrations.

Purchase any kind of Village beer from June 1 to June 30, 2019 and send a copy of your receipts to us at the West Hillhurst Community Association. Village Brewery will then donate 15% of all neighbourhood beer purchases back to us for future community-building initiatives! We will also make receipt donation boxes available in select liquor stores throughout the neighbourhood, so keep your eye out for them and make sure to submit your receipts! This funds go a long way for the WHCA and our fundraising efforts, and every little bit counts. You can also stop by the office at WHCA and drop your receipts off in person.

Raise a glass in honour of Neighbour Day on June 15, 2019 and help support your community!

East Parking Lot Closure

If you’re a regular visitor to the Community Association or the Bowview Pool, you’ve probably noticed the potholes and wear & tear throughout the pool-side of the east parking lot. So good news: repairs will be done in May/June to fill the potholes before the pool opens for the season!

Unfortunately, this means the pool-side of the parking lot will be inaccessible during construction.

Construction begins May 27th and is expected to last for a week. During this time, we expect the WHCA-side of the parking lot to be extra busy, so if you will be visiting during the week of May 27th to June 2nd, be prepared to find street and off-site parking.

We apologize for the inconvenience this causes and we appreciate your patience and understanding. These repairs are much needed for the damaged parking lot and need to be addressed before the pool reopens for the summer.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us and our staff will do their best to address them.

New & Returning External WHCA Programs

The West Hillhurst Community Association is a 70,000 square foot facility, which means we have room for a TON of activities. While we try to provide as much family-friendly programming as we can for the community, we also provide rental spaces for external programs to run within the facility (since it would be almost impossible for us to fill these rooms just ourselves!).

Some of our external renters have been with us fairly long-term. For more info on them, you can check out the External Programs page on our website. They include:

  • Go-Getters 50+
  • Pickleball
  • NCHL
  • Summit Kids
  • Balletiques
  • and more.

Be sure to check out their separate descriptions and websites, available on the External Programs page.

We are also always looking for new renters to run programs! For instance, right now we provide space for fencing, karate, dance, fitness, and more! If you’re ever looking for more information on a program, class, or course offered at the WHCA, stop by the facility or give us a call and we will be happy to assist you as best we can.

If you’ve got ideas for programming you’d like to see at the WHCA, let us know! We want to have something for everyone.

Sponsorship & Advertising in the WHCA

We have some new and unique opportunities for local area businesses who are looking to connect with the West Hillhurst community!

Throughout 2019, not only will we be replacing the ice in the arena, but we are also adding a new gym wall divider! This means there will be brand-new sponsorship opportunities in these areas.

For the ice arena, we are adding 4 logos from sponsors onto the ice. These logos will be approximately 12’x7.5′ and will be painted around the center of the arena. Once the new ice is placed, these logos will be in place for 3 years and will be seen by all of our arena attendees, hockey & skating participants, and patrons of the Barn Pub! For only $1000/year, this is a great opportunity to connect with community members and your new customers.

In the gym, we will be replacing the current divider with a brand-new retractable wall! Sponsors for this wall will receive a large 6’x10′ logo on one of 4 spots along the divider as well as recognition on a wall-sign for when the divider is not in use. Our gym is extremely well attended and in use year-round. You can be a part of this opportunity for just $1200/year and expand your audience across Calgary’s inner-city neighbourhoods.

To learn more about these sponsorship opportunities and more, contact our marketing & communications coordinator Kyle at marketing@westhillhurst.com. We also have a marketing package pdf which can be viewed from www.westhillhurst.com/advertising-sponsorship/

Website Changes Under Way

Throughout the coming weeks, we’ll be making some minor tweaks and changes to the design, layout, and content on the WHCA website. You may have even noticed some of them already, such as changes to the navigation bar, additional pages, and updated content. While we try to keep the website as up to date as possible, we realized not all aspects are totally intuitive or optimized for your convenience. We want your experience on the WHCA website to be as seamless and painless as possible and we hope the ongoing changes will help with that.

For starters, we have now arranged our programs menu into Youth & External programs. Please feel free to check out the new Youth Programs landing page and provide us with any feedback you may have.

We have also added a “News & Events” option on our menu where we have made additions such as access to our monthly e-newsletters, full digital copies of the West Hillhurst Warbler, and a link to subscribe to our newsletter.

You can now subscribe to receive updates about ice & gym time availability under the “Scheduling” menu, as well as get a membership, volunteer, and more under the “Get Involved” option.

There are a number of other small changes we’ve made and more to come, so take some time to explore the website in the coming weeks and let us know what features and changes you’d be interested in seeing.
