Before You Play Squash:

Log in to your ActiveNet account: ActiveNet Login
From your My Account homepage
Click “Make Reservations”
Click “Quick Reserve”
Select your reservation details:
Choose “Squash”
Pick your date
Click “Check Availability”
Important: Do not use the “Time Frame” option. Only select from the available grey squares.
Find an available slot and click “Reserve”.

All squash court bookings must be cancelled online at least 12 hours before the scheduled time.
Failure to cancel will be recorded as a “no-show” and penalized according to the following procedure:
1st & 2nd Occurrence: Email warning
3rd Occurrence: $25 fee to reinstate booking privileges

Ozzie started playing squash in Ottawa when he was 15 years old. He competed nationally, reaching a high of #5 overall in the Canadian Junior Rankings.
Once Ozzie turned 19 he continued to compete and took up coaching while in University eventually moving to Yellowknife becoming the Head Pro at the Yellowknife Racquet Club as well as becoming the Vice President of Squash NWT. In his time in the north Ozzie was able to grow the adult and junior program as well as competing on Team NWT for the Canadian Mens Team Championships helping them finish 5th overall.
Ozzie became one of the youngest provincially certified coaches and was the NWT junior coach for the 2015 Canada Winter Games and in 2017 Ozzie moved to Calgary. From moving, he coached at the Glencoe Club where he continued to play at a high level and competed in the 2018 Canadian Nationals while also working as the Tournament Director.
In 2018 Ozzie moved to Toronto and became the assistant head pro of the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling club further developing the Squash program in the Toronto scene at one of Canada’s oldest most prestigious squash clubs.
Ozzie returned to Calgary in 2019 to the Glencoe Club and coached many of the top adults and juniors in the city before switching careers. Ozzie now works for the City but continues to coach at various clubs around the city part time. -

Sasha Thomson is a dedicated squash player affiliated with West Hillhurst Squash & Fitness and Squash Alberta. She graduated in 2021 with a degree in Communications and is now pursuing a career in marketing, with a particular interest in advertising. Sasha has always been passionate about sports and has demonstrated a strong work ethic and commitment throughout her athletic journey.
Her squash career began with lessons at the West Hillhurst Community Center, where she quickly developed her skills and love for the game. She went on to compete with the West Hillhurst Calgary Interclub Ladies 4 team and has participated in numerous tournaments across Alberta. One of her proudest achievements was winning the Women’s B division at the MRU Squash Open in 2020.
Looking ahead, Sasha is excited to train and compete in the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island. She is currently open to private coaching opportunities and welcomes sponsorship inquiries to support her continued growth in the sport.

Squash Interclub
Compete on Calgary Interclub teams and join our pool of players for upcoming games. Participation requires a commitment to the team.

Interclub is a team-based competition where WHRC players compete against other clubs in Calgary.
It’s ideal for players looking for a structured, competitive squash experience.
WHRC is home to 6 men’s teams and 3 women’s teams in the Calgary Interclub Squash League. Teams are selected by captains. For more information please contact athletics@westhillhurst.com.

Squash Ladder
One of Alberta’s largest squash ladders with 80–120 players. All levels welcome — from beginner to advanced!

A squash ladder is a friendly competition where players are grouped by skill level.
Players challenge others in their “box” over an 8-week session.
Points are earned for games won, and players move up or down after the session.
All levels are welcome

Ladder schedule and fees at a glance:
Free for WH Squash Members
Each ladder runs 8 weeks5 sessions per year: Sept–Oct | Nov–Dec | Jan–Feb | Mar–Apr | May–Jun

How games are played and points counted:
Best of 5 games to 15 points (no cap)
1 point per game won (winner always 3 points, losers 0–2 points)
If a match stops early: reschedule or count points from games played
If injured mid-match: injured player forfeits remaining sets but keeps points already earned (unless mutually agreed to reschedule)

Ladder movement rules:
After each 8-week ladder: top 2 move up, bottom 2 move down
Adjustments may occur due to new players or dropouts

How to arrange your matches:
Players are responsible for scheduling their own matches and will contact each other directly (emails/phone numbers provided)
Matches must be completed within 8 weeks
Minimum 3 matches required to remain in next ladder
No-shows forfeit 0–3 unless both agree to reschedule

What to do if you can’t finish:
Notify your ladder box players
Games already played no longer count toward remaining players

After the first session, players are automatically enrolled in the next ladder
Players with fewer than 3 matches will be removed from the following ladder session
